The focus of this biography of Wayne Gray is on his incredible business success story. He left school in rural Prince Edward Island after Grade 8 because he wanted to get out into the business world and make something of himself. In that regard, he certainly did. Wayne went from making 42 a week at an optical store in Charlottetown in 1965, to overseeing the creation of the Vogue Optical chain of stores, an Atlantic Canada giant in the eyeglass industry. He exited the business in 2013 when he sold his 65 Vogue Optical stores for 74 million. At the time, there were 380 employees in all four Atlantic Provinces, with an annual payroll of 12.6 million. He brought a number of innovations to the eyeglass industry. The most important was his Second Pair Free eyeglass promotion, which helped propel him from a two-person store in Charlottetown to being the dominant optical chain in Atlantic Canada.
